Mrs. Sara Nell Windom Bates, age 82, of Tallapoosa, GA, passed away March 9, 2019. She was born April 12, 1936 in Cedartown, GA to the late Walker and Lena Clay Windom. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Winford Bates; daughter, Patricia Bowers; brother, Harold Windom; and brothers in law, James Kelly and Cranston Johnston.

Sara was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Tallapoosa. She enjoyed cooking. She was very close with her family and loved spending time with them more than anything else.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Douglas Kilgore, Barbara and Carroll Gilbert, and Gail Bowers; son, Donnie Bates, all of Tallapoosa; grandchildren and their spouses, Stacee and Barry Smith, Christy and Lek Brannon, Carrie and Adrian Ruiz, Crystal and Justin Holdbrooks, Amanda and Kasey Robinson, and Clay and Lindsay Kilgore; great grandchildren, Austin Smith, Christopher Brannon, Blannie Brannon, Kaleb Ruiz, Adaley Ruiz, Hudson Holdbrooks, Hanson Holdbrooks, Brentley Robinson, Briley Robinson, Bryson Robinson, Luke Kilgore, John Clay Kilgore, and Layna Kilgore; sisters and brothers in law, Irene Kelley, Marcelene Johnston, all of Tallapoosa, and Clara and Jack Dewberry, of Bremen, GA; and brother, Johnny Windom, of Tallapoosa.  

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Mason Bush and Rev. Randall Moore officiating. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Clay Kilgore, Kasey Robinson, Justin Holdbrooks, Barry Smith, Austin Smith, Adrian Ruiz, and Lek Brannon. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Pixler officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday evening between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 PM.
