Ms. Ethel Austin Hicks passed away May 20, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, Georgia. She was born December 6, 1917 to the late John and Dora Long Austin in Muscadine, AL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hazie Lee Hicks, and son, James Newton Hicks.

Ms. Hicks graduated from Oxford High School and worked until retirement at age 70 from Anniston Army Depot. She had lived a long productive life and will be missed by all who knew her. She loved her home and neighbors in Fruithurst, Alabama.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Hicks Varnell, granddaughter, Angela Hicks Fielder, great-granddaughter, Madison Fielder, daughter in law, Penny Hicks and double first cousins, Mamie Long Kilgore and Gay Joyce Long Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM EST from Fruithurst Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Upper Cane Creek Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa, GA Tuesday, May 22, between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM EST.
