Mr. Robert “Bob” William Miller, 85, of Cairo, GA, formerly of Tallapoosa, GA, passed away February 12, 2013. Mr. Miller was born April 2, 1927 in Tallapoosa to the late R. J. and Mable McKissick Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Ruth Miller Williams and Elizabeth Miller Marcinko and brother and fellow funeral director, Hubert Miller.
Mr. Miller served in the US Army in Germany during World War II. After completing high school with the Tallapoosa High School class of 1944, he graduated from the Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in Nashville, TN. Following in his father’s footsteps, he has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1948. He provided funeral service for the residents of Cairo for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers and former member of the Georgia Funeral Director Association. Mr. Miller was very active in local civic and veterans groups. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cairo, where he was a past Kiwanian of the Year and member of the American Legion Post 122. He held Emeritus Mason position in the Cairo Lodge #299. Mr. Miller worked and served with the Shriners and other Masonic bodies for over 50 years. He was a charter and very active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Jessie Miller of Cairo; son Bill Miller of Bremen, GA and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM from Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3224 U.S. 84 Cairo, GA 39828. His family will receive friends Thursday evening at the Tabernacle Baptist Church between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30.
Interment will follow on Friday, February 15 at 4:00 PM in Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Wales Goebel officiating and Haralson County Veterans Association providing military honors. Gentleman serving as pallbearers will include Jack Nixon, Bill Miller, Keith Miller and John Marcinko.
Family and friends will gather at Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa at 3:30 PM.
