Mr. George Henry Gilbert, age 87, of 235 4th Street East, Fruithurst, Al., passed away April 13, 2008. Mr. Gilbert was born March 13, 1921, in Fort Payne, Al. to the late George Henry and India Maddox Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Marie Morrow Gilbert; sisters, Novella Pack of Chattanooga, TN, Louise Tucker of Buchanan, Bobbie Kilgore of Tallapoosa, and Marie Jones of Forest Park; brother, Dick Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Associated Rubber Company where he worked in Shipping and Receiving for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Merlyn Ellis of Waco, sons and daughters-in-law George Rickey and Renea Gilbert of Douglasville and Billy Carroll and Barbara Sue Gilbert of Tallapoosa; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Jimmie Williams and Audrey Frost of Tallapoosa and Wilma Frost of Chatsworth, GA.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM EST from Fruithurst Baptist Church with Rev. David Ginn, Rev. Ronnie Williams, and Rev. James Owens officiating. The body lay-in-state at the church from 1:00 a" 2:00 PM EST. Pallbearers serving were: Paul Williams, Ronald Gilbert, Billy Wayne Kilgore, Mike Morrow, Johnny Ray Truett, Lane Williams, Ed Williams, and Jerry Gilbert. Music was provided by the Fruithurst Church Choir.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.

Interment followed in Fruithurst City Cemetery with the Haralson County Veterans Association providing full military honors.

The family received friends at Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa Monday, April 14 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM EST.
