Mr. Robert Louis Almon, Sr., was born to the late Rader and Annie Almon in Waco, GA on November 3, 1924, the third of eight children. The family moved to Tallapoosa, GA in 1928. He joined the Mt. Newly Baptist Church at the age of 8.  

He served two plus years in the United States Quarterly Master Trucking of the United States Army in England, France and Germany during World War II.

He graduated from the Tallapoosa Colored High School later known as Carver High School in 1946. He entered Morehouse College, Albany State College and graduated from Morris Brown College in 1954. He also received an MS from Atlanta University in 1969 and Master of Education Degree in Mathematics from the University of Georgia in 1970. He served as Head of the Department of Mathematics; Head Coach of Track, Basketball and Baseball in the Haralson County School System, the Cedar Hill High School of Cedartown, GA and the Eutaw High of Eutaw, AL. He retired from the Haralson County School system in 1978.

He was happily married to the late Ada Almeda Dunson Almon in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1980. Robert re-met and married his childhood high school sweetheart, Gladys Watkins in 1982. She preceded him in death in 2000.

Later he married Grace Bryant-Almon and moved with her to Thomasville, GA.

On March 7, 2019 after a blessed, full, moving life of 94 years, he gained his wings peacefully and now lives with his Lord and Savior. He leaves precious memories of his life and legacy to his loving wife, Grace Bryant-Almon; his two sisters; two brothers in law; ten daughters, Althea (Willie) Clarke, Denise (Pastor Freddie) Parham, Min. Sheryl Rolling, Debra (James)Moreen, Min. Vickey (Jay) Wansley, Pam Smith, Tina (Terrance) Pruitt, Laura Watkins, Patricia (Gary) Mitchell, Barbara Watkins; three sons, Robert (Sharon) Almon, Jr., Ken Almon, James Watkins; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends all over the world.

Visitation will be held, Friday, March 15, 2019, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM from Mt. Newly Baptist Church in Tallapoosa, GA. Final Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12:00 PM from Mt. Newly. Interment will follow in Mt. Newly Cemetery. Repast will then be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Bremen, GA.

Visitation and Wake were held, March 11th, at Hatcher-People Funeral Home in Thomasville, GA. Local arrangements are with Willie Watkins Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ga.

To my family, I share your grief "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted." I have so many fond memories along with many others whose lives (Uncle) Mr. Almon touched. What a soldier he was in GOD's Army.
